In its heyday, the XJ220 was not only the world’s fastest production car, but also held the record around the Nurburgring. Nevertheless, it hasn’t gone onto become a collectable or an automotive icon quite like the McLaren F1.
Thankfully, Jay Leno is up to speed with the its legendary status and just had the chance to drive a stunning dark blue example, reminding us of just how special this Jaguar is.
In the lead-up to the unveiling of the road-going XJ220, the British automaker promised that its ground-breaking supercar would be all-wheel drive and utilize a massive V12. However, when it launched, it came with a twin-turbo V6 and rear-wheel drive and even though it broke records, didn’t prove all that successful for Jaguar.
Of the 275 units produced, just a mere 32 examples were imported to the US, from which only six of are still in the country.
Almost 25 years old, the XJ220 remains the fastest road car Jaguar has ever created and as the stunning C-X75 hybrid was canned, it’s likely to retain that title for years to come.
