While Smart has commenced production of the new ForTwo Cabrio in Hambach, a hotter version of the vehicle was spotted out in the open.
The prototype is the new Brabus range-topper, which will gain some chassis tweaks along with some bodywork add-ons, larger wheels, a two-pipe exhaust system and updates in the cabin that should include unique trimmings, upgraded instrument panel and sportier seats.
Since it will be based on the underpinnings of its Coupe, the new Smart ForTwo Cabrio Brabus will share its rear mounted engine, rumored to be a 1.2-liter turbo, producing between 110hp and 130hp, or even a tuned version of the current 3-banger 0.9-liter turbo, connected to a standard manual transmission or an optional dual-clutch automatic.
Smart will introduce the new Brabus in Coupe form this summer. It will be followed by the Convertible should follow, along with the ForFour Brabus, which was already caught testing. The new Smart lineup will be completed with an electric version of its two-seater, expected to debut by the end of 2016.
