Here’s one last peek at Acura’s facelifted 2017 MDX crossover in prototype form before it makes its grand debut at next week’s New York Auto Show.
Acura had prepared us for a beakless future with their Precision Concept at this year’s Detroit Auto Show in January, and the updated 2017 MDX will be the brand’s first production car to adopt this new look with the ‘Diamond Pentagon grille’.
Crispier detailing around the front end that will gain new hood, headlamp and bumper designs, along with new side skirt trimmings, alloy wheels and a re-profiled rear bumper, seem to round out the exterior revisions, despite Acura’s overly dramatic teaser that would have you think that they redesigned the entire car…
In a briefing last month, Acura said that the seven-seater 2017 MDX “will boast substantial design enhancements, added luxury comfort and convenience features, and advanced new powertrain technology”, without elaborating.
The carmaker had updated the MDX just last year with a new 9-speed automatic transmission and their Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system with a twin-clutch design. The 2016 model is powered by a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine.
