The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is one of the hottest cars right now, which is understandable considering the amount of on-board tech it packs.
While we’ve seen demonstrations, watching footage of a reviewer doing his thing and giving us a near-first person perspective on what it’s like to drive and be driven by the new E-Class between Lisbon and Estoril, is quite fun.
Portugal’s coastline is one of the most beautiful locations in all of Western Europe, which is why so many automakers choose to hold their new car launches there – places where journalists can cruise around unencumbered by bad weather conditions.
The car being tested here is the all-new E400 4MATIC, which is set to debut in June with a 333 HP engine that’s also good for 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. According to the man behind the wheel, the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine sounds “decent” thanks to the active-valve exhaust system that opens when you put the car in Sport+ mode, though the fact that exterior noise levels are low can be a very good thing in this particular segment.
We also get some excellent footage of the car driving itself on the motorway and some very appealing night-time cruising which shows just how nicely the interior ambient lighting is – not to mention the fully digital instrument cluster.
The second video is a bit more performance-oriented, and we do get to see a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration test, aced by the E400 in just 4.9 seconds – which is considerably quicker than a BMW 535i xDrive and slightly faster than the Audi A6 3.0 TFSI quattro S tronic.
