Don’t let the Golf-suit fool you; VW is testing its future Juke-rivaling crossover under there.

Volkswagen is working intensely on the successor of the Polo supermini and its new SUV derivative, with both of them based on the MQB platform for the first time.

VW’s compact SUV is expected to be revealed shortly after the next Polo arrives. This will be the first use of the MQB platform in the supermini segment and as expected, it will allow for a drastic increase of cabin and luggage space while retaining a compact footprint on the road.

The new crossover will sit on top of the new Polo’s range but it will have its own visual identity despite the common hardware underneath the skin. The engine range will be comprised of turbo petrol units ranging from 1.0-litre to the all-new 1.5-litre VW is currently developing with an also new 1.5-litre diesel present as well. The MQB underpinnings also mean that the new crossover will be offered in 4WD guises as well.

VW has already previewed the production version with the T-Cross Breeze concept in the last Geneva Motor Show. The finished model is expected to hit the market in 2018.
