A motorcyclist can’t survive in the real world without a proper tool kit, that’s why BMW’s Motorrad division has come up with an ingenious solution; the BMW GS Survival Tool AFD edition.

Due to the constant desire for adventure, growing among GS riders, BMW has assembled a group of experienced motorcyclists to analyze the situation and develop a special new tool for the GS R1200 and R1200 GS Adventure. Dubbed the BMW GS Survival tool, the kit enables complex repairs and replication of spare parts out in the field.

According to the German company, the device was developed based on “a historical precursor used by many mechanics in Bavaria back in the early 20th century”: the so-called axe-hammer pliers. Like its name suggest, the gizmo benefits from unique multifunctional qualities, and it can be used as an axe, a hammer, or as pliers. And as a knife, and a screwdriver. And a Saw.

The GS Survival Tool was refined and perfected in the course of numerous endurance tests carried out by Bavarian engineers in some of the world’s most remote and barren regions. BMW even says that many a fantastic motorcycling adventure would have been brought to a premature finish had it not been for this multifunctional device.

The BMW GS Survival Tool is forged from high-quality chrome molybdenum steel and mechanically processed, although its shaft is made of aluminum and plastic (for weight saving purposes).

Prices for this utensil start at € 389 for the basic version and can get up to €1,479 for the Pro and €1,699 for the HP variant respectively. The latter allegedly made from titanium and carbon fiber…if you believe BMW’s April Fool’s joke.
