Tesla Motors’ CEO and founder Elon Musk started a true revolution in electric cars, making them a much more credible rival to those powered by conventional engines.

The firm’s lineup currently includes the Model S luxury sedan, which has just been facelifted and the first ever SUV, the Model X with its gullwing-style rear doors.

Musk’s greatest coup has been the Model 3, whose world premiere and order books opening has made people queue for blocks, scoring around 400,000 reservations so far, almost two years before first deliveries begin.

However, Tesla’s revolution won’t stop there. Quoting Musk, who has recently spoken to the Norwegian Minister of Transport and Communications, Ketil Solvik-Olsen, Electrek reports that a more affordable EV is under consideration.

If [the Model 3 platform] is designed so that roughly half of people can afford the car and then with the fourth generation – smaller cars and whatnot – we will ultimately be in a position where everyone can afford the car“, Musk said, referring to people on the lookout for a new car and not the entire world population.

Further details are not available, but if the report urns out to be accurate, then expect something more affordable than the Model 3’s $35,000 starting price.
