Chinese off-road enthusiasts in search of a new vehicle will be able to order the Ford F-150 Raptor, starting from next year.
Mostly identical to the latest F-150 SVR Raptor, but with four doors, the pickup truck features purpose-built chassis, engine and suspension, enhancing its abilities on different surfaces, from rocky landscapes to challenging desert.
“F-150 Raptor is the ultimate showcase of the tough capability available throughout Ford’s family of trucks and SUVs. By introducing it to the world’s largest auto market, we hope to inspire a new generation of off-road enthusiasts, and demonstrate how we are always bringing our customers new innovations“, commented Ford Motor China CEO and Chairman, John Lawler.
The new Ford F-150 Raptor is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, the output of which remains unknown, but it’s said to produce more than the previous Raptor’s 6.2-liter V8, rated at 411 HP and 434 lb-ft (588 Nm) of torque. The unit is paired to a new 10-speed transmission that sends power to the improved four-wheel drive system.
Its off-road driving mode technology has evolved into a new Terrain Management System, allowing six preset modes including Normal, Street, Weather (for rain, snow and ice), Mud and Sand, Baja (for high-speed desert running) and Rock.
Ford will produce the 2017 F-150 Raptor at the Dearborn Truck Plant in North America and it will be launched in China as a SuperCrew model in 2017. The pickup truck will also become available in 96 markets across the globe.
