JLR has confirmed that the company’s first Jaguar vehicle to be built at its joint venture plant in China will be the all-new Jaguar XF long wheelbase model, or XF L.
The Changshu plant is run by JLR and Chery Automobile and is already responsible for the Chinese-built Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery.
Since long wheelbase premium saloons are so popular in China, taking on the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6 (all offered in long wheelbase forms) was a no-brainer for the British automaker, which has recently taken a more aggressive approach to challenging its German rivals with the addition of the XE alongside the all-new XF and F-Pace SUV.
“Jaguar Land Rover is a world-leader in the production of aluminum vehicles and is one of the largest producers of aluminum bodies globally,” said Murray Dietsch, President of Chery JLR. “The arrival of the all-new Jaguar XFL brings the best of this experience and technology to Changshu. It is an important milestone for the team at Chery Jaguar Land Rover.”
The Chinese-build Jaguar XF L will go on sale during the second half of the year, though more details are to be released later this month at the Beijing Motor Show.
