As part of continuing the transformation plan agreed with the works council in 2015, Mercedes-Benz will add two new vehicles to the Bremen assembly line.
The first one will be the newly introduced GLC Coupe, which celebrated its world premiere in New York, last month, followed by the C-Class Cabriolet, later in the year. In total, the three-pointed star will produce ten different models at its assembly line in Bremen, which will also take on 200 temporary workers as permanent employees.
Mercedes-Benz announcement follows an agreement made in May 2015, which strengthens Bremen’s role as the lead plant for global C-Class production. The plan includes the investment of more than €750 million ($848 million) in the expansion and modernization of the facility, which is operating at high levels of capacity.
The firm’s plant in Bremen, Germany, remains the biggest private employer in the region, as it currently holds 12,500 jobs. This is where eight different models are produced, including the C-Class Saloon, Estate and Coupe, the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, GLC crossover and two roadsters, the SLC and SL. The facility directs the worldwide production of vehicles in the plants abroad, including Tuscaloosa, in USA, Beijing in China and East London, in South Africa.
