With Volkswagen’s new design language clearly headed in the direction previewed by the T-Prime GTE Concept, imagining the all-new Touareg isn’t a difficult mental exercise.
Case in point, this T-Prime GTE-like rendering. The concept in question was unveiled during this year’s Beijing Auto Show and even though it previews a bigger model than the Touareg, we can already start to argue in favor or against its appearance as a production-ready model.
We do know that the 2018 Touareg, like the Audi Q7, will sit on VW’s new MLB-Evo architecture. This means a lot less weight, plenty of aluminum and probably a more rigid chassis.
There’s definitely going to be a great deal more tech inside as well, with the latest safety and connectivity features being made available to customers willing to pass on rival models in favor of a new large SUV from Volkswagen.
Performance-wise, a plug-in hybrid drive such as the one showcased on the T-Prime GTE would definitely do the job. It’s got 375 HP, 699 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Question is, if the all-new Touareg comes out looking like this while still undercutting the X5, GLE and the Q7 in terms of pricing, would you spend your hard earned money on it?
