Spy photos may have shown only sedan and liftback versions of the upcoming Buick Regal and Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, but they will be joined by a wagon .

Announced at the Buick-GMC annual dealer meeting held last week in Austin Texas, where the 2018 Enclave, Regal, Regal GS and 2018 GMC Terrain were also shown, it will hit the US market in the 2018 model year, according to GMInsideNews, and it will be closely based on the Insignia Sports Tourer.

This is where details on the model stop, but it’s already known that the next-gen Buick Regal and Opel/Vauxhall Insignia will share GM’s E2XX platform, borrowed from the latest Chevrolet Malibu, which will translate into a bigger footprint, more legroom for the rear passengers and a significant weight loss over the current versions.

For the North American market, the engine lineup will include turbocharged petrol engines mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission, while the Opel will get turbodiesel four-cylinders too, among them the new 1.6-liter CDTi that will replace the 2.0-liter CDTi. A hybrid powertrain is on the cards and a turbocharged V6 will power the all-wheel drive, range-topping Regal GS and Insignia OPC.

Opel/Vauxhall are believed to lift the veils off the next-gen Insignia at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, while the next-gen Buick Regal should follow shortly.
