This shocking incident was captured by surveillance cameras in Braila, Romania, where a driver fell asleep at the wheel and still did his best Dukes of Hazard impersonation.
According to reports, the 22 year old man and his female passenger didn’t suffer any injuries as they were both lucky the car maintained its forward momentum and landed on its wheels.
“I heard a loud noise, I was there, three cars back when suddenly I saw his taillights above me. The car tilted on its side, I thought it was going to roll over. They were fine though, a boy and a girl, he fell asleep at the wheel, he even admitted it. I had to go over to them, me and a colleague, because they weren’t coming out of the car. The airbags saved them,” said a man who witnessed the whole thing.
The police were less sympathetic to his situation, which is why the driver ended up losing his license for a month and got slapped with a criminal record for destroying the roundabout, which is city property.
Other people on the scene argued that the roundabout has very poor lighting and that these types of accidents are just waiting to happen. Even so, before blaming the infrastructure, drivers may want to make sure they stay awake when they’re behind the wheel, first and foremost.
