The beauty of GTA 5 is Rockstar’s funny bone that parodies and satires actual companies, objects, events and behaviors in order to spice up and make the virtual state of San Andreas more dynamic and funny.
Giving the developer’s attention the details, it’s odd that it didn’t include an autonomous vehicle with an incline for turning rogue in the game. However, thanks to its comprehensive director mode, real-life resemblances and modding community, all kind of elements can be manipulated and added to GTA 5, and YouTuber ‘PizzaForBreakfast’ took advantage of this perk, creating a video with an out-of-control google-like pod car mowing down pedestrians.
The man stuck to the vanilla variant of the game, modifying only the number plates while using the already available “Benefactor Panto” (which is modeled after the smart Fortwo) as a base car.
Using a news format with overlaid audio from an ABC news report, the man told CNBC he wanted to ridicule a situation in which an autonomous car would go berserk:
“Cars are already a feat in engineering, but that’s not enough – now we want cars to drive themselves. So while companies are racing to be the first to provide the ‘latest and greatest,’ I thought it’d be funny to imagine what could go wrong if Google released their self-driving car prototype a little prematurely.”
As you’d imagine, the end result is as funny as it is startling.
