Sauber’s chances of finally scoring points this season might increase as reports of them getting Ferrari’s 2016-spec engine in time for next weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix have started to surface.

Ferrari is offering both Sauber as well as Haas the chance to run new-spec engines in Barcelona, however the American team has yet to confirm if they’ll be making the switch in time.

Sauber on the other hand have decided to use it immediately, according to Autosport, though without any new aero upgrades – at least not in time for Spain. Right now, Sauber has yet to score any points this season (like Manor), with Renault being the only other rival that looks vulnerable enough for the Swiss team to pounce on in the standings.

In related news, the Zurich-based outfit has also confirmed they will be missing out on the first in-season test, taking place in Barcelona on Tuesday and Wednesday in the week following the race.

As for Toro Rosso, Ferrari’s third customer team, they’ll be sticking to the 2015-spec power unit for the remainder of the season, as it was decided when they signed their deal with the Scuderia late last year.
