ABT Sportsline has been enhancing the Passat ever since 1973 and now they’ve released some new tunes for the latest model.
The German tuner fiddled with nearly the entire engine family of the medium-sized family saloon and estate, starting with the 1.4-liter TSI, whose 150 PS (148 HP) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque stock output has been raised to 180 PS (177 HP) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque.
Producing 180 PS (177 HP) and 250 Nm (lb-ft) of torque in standard form, the 1.8-liter TSI is now capable of churning out 210 PS (207 HP) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque, while the 2.0-liter turbo was upgraded from 220 PS (217 HP) and 280 PS (276 HP) to 290 PS (286 HP) and 336 PS (331 HP), respectively, with torque in both units standing at 420 Nm (310 lb-ft), up from the production version’s 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).
On the diesel side, ABT offers power upgrades for the 2.0-liter turbo, whose output was raised from 150 PS (148 HP) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) to 170 PS (168 HP) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft). The 190 PS (187 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) version now delivers 215 PS (212 HP) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque, while the range-topper TDI is good for 270 PS (266 HP) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft), up from 240 PS (237 HP) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft).
There is also a body kit available for the latest Passat, which is not entirely new, as it was first seen last year, packing an updated grille, front apron, new side skirts, different mirror covers, rear spoiler and a rear skirt add-on. Finishing off the package are the new ABT springs, anti-roll bars and a choice of 18- to 21-inch wheels, wrapped in high-performance tires.
