While the recently concluded Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016 was hit by rain across three of the four days, the event proved exceptional as always, highlighted by the final shootout late Sunday afternoon.

Olly Clark managed to record the fastest time up Lord March’s famous driveway for the second year running on-board his extensively modified Subaru Impreza, delivering some 860 hp and dubbed Gobstopper II. Despite having more power than last year, his time of 46.29 was shy of his best time last year, inevitably due to the cooler conditions.

Certainly one of the highlights of this year’s festival was the first McLaren P1 LM prepared by Lanzante. Despite being honed for the race track yet somehow still road-legal, it took home second place with a blistering 47.07 time, besting the likes of dedicated hillclimb cars, NASCARs and former Grand Prix machines.

Third place was secured by American driver Mike Skinner onboard his NASCAR Toyota Tundra pick-up. Despite not winning, his run of the hill was arguably the most exhilirating, with the driving ace pushing the car to its absolute limits, coming within inches of the famed Flint Wall with the rear-end shaking around in all directions. Even the commentators said it was potentially one of the most exciting runs ever seen at the festival, now in its 24th year.

Other cars which pumped out impressive times were a McLaren-Chevrolet M8F sports prototype, a Porsche 911 GT3 cup car, a classic Ferrari 312 P Spyder and Pat Doran’s extreme Ford RS200 Pikes Peak racer.
