Remember when Lanzante said it was working on a road-going conversion of the P1 GTR, and McLaren said it would bring it to Goodwood? Well here it is, folks. And it’s more extensive a transformation than we expected.

The finished product has been dubbed the P1 LM, in reference to the legendary McLaren F1 LM. Just as those six examples were based on the F1 GTR with which Lanzante took the checkered flag at Le Mans in 19995, so too is the P1 LM based on the P1 GTR – the more extreme, track-bound version of McLaren’s hybrid hypercar.

To convert it to street-legal specification, Lanzante retuned the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain to run on 99-octane gasoline, but increased the boost to match the track version’s 986-horsepower output.

It also cut 130 pounds from the already stripped-down GTR’s curb weight by using an Inconel exhaust system, throwing out the air-jack system, and replacing the glass windows with plastic.

Lanzante also fitted new wings front and rear to increase downforce, fitted road-spec wheels and tires, trimmed the cockpit in Alcantara and fitted a new steering wheel derived from the one in Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 championship-winning McLaren MP4-23.

The prototype pictured here is set to debut alongside the new 570S Sprint at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week. Like its predecessor, only five customer examples will be made: one in gray as pictured, and four more in orange.
