There’s something about Lego-made cars that bring back old memories and the latest Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 checks all the right boxes.
Built from 1,167 pieces and finished in Azure Blue, it features a flat windshield, curved fenders, Volkswagen logo, an “authentic 4-cylinder air-cooled engine and fuel tank”, as Lego explains, joined by a roof-mounted surfboard and cooler box, which can be removed. The interior is beige-dominated and has a dashboard, steering wheel and forward-tilting seats.
Future builders can choose between four license plates that can be added to the 10-inch (29 cm) long, 4-inch (12 cm) wide and 11-inch (15 cm) tall scale model, after paying the sticker price of US $99.99, CA $129.99, DE €89.99, UK £69.99 and DK 799.00.
While the latest Lego-made Bug will go on sale from August 1, enthusiasts will notice that this isn’t actually the first Lego Beetle model, as the original one was based on the 1960 Charlotte version and was released in 2008, with 1,626 pieces, more generous proportions and an initial price tag of $119,99.
