Maserati North America is conducting a safety campaign surrounding certain Ghibli and Quattroporte units, from the 2014 MY.

Produced between June 1, 2013, and February 28, 2014, the vehicles are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, whose park mode may malfunction, misleading drivers which gear the car is in, leading to possible roll-away.

Drivers thinking that their vehicle’s transmission is in the PARK position may be struck by the vehicle and injured if they attempt to get out of the vehicle while the engine is running and the parking brake is not engaged“, the NHTSA wrote in its Consequence of the matter.

The automaker, however, is not aware of any injuries or crashes related to this condition in the 13,092 affected sedans, whose owners will be informed of the problem and will be advised to take a trip back to the dealers once a remedy software, which is currently in development, will become available. The first notification will be sent on July 1, while a second one will be mailed when the software is available.

This is the second recall campaign due to this problem over the last two months, conducted by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The previous one affected 1.1 million vehicles worldwide and was eventually linked to 308 reports of property damage, 212 crashes and 41 injuries, as AutoNews reports.

Moreover, the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte were recalled earlier this year for rear suspension failure and unintended acceleration risk.
