With no less than three different AMG versions offered in the new C-Class Cabriolet, Mercedes’ plan to expand the AMG range didn’t take that long to come to life.
The new C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are now available in C43 4Matic, C63 and C63 S AMG guises, offering from 367hp to a whopping 510hp under their hoods.
The C43 4Matic Cabriolet is powered by a newly developed twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 producing 362hp (367PS) and 383 lb-ft (520Nm) that sends its power to all four wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. 0-62mph (0-100km/h) comes in 4.8 seconds with the top speed limited as usual to 155mph (250km/h).
Next up we got the C63 Cabriolet with the familiar biturbo 4.0-litre V8 that debuted in the AMG GT sports car. Power is rated at 469hp (476PS) with torque at 479lb ft (650Nm). Unlike the entry-level model (if you can refer to a 362hp Merc as ‘entry-level’), power goes only to rear axle via the seven-speed MCT Speedshift gearbox. 0-62mph ( 0-100km/h) comes in 4.2 seconds with the top speed also limited to 155mph (250km/h).
The range-topping S model offers 503hp (510PS) from the same biturbo V8 engine and 516lb ft (700Nm) of torque, which allows it to save one tenth out of the 0-62mph procedure, with 4.1 seconds. Mercedes offers the option in both the C63 and C63 S models to lift the electronic top speed limiter to 174mph (280km/h).
Mercedes claims that the rear axle is newly developed only for the Coupe and Cabriolet models, offering a wider by 25mm track when compared to the one in the Saloon and Estate versions of the C-Class. A mechanical limited slip differential is offered as standard in the C63, with the more powerful C63 S coming with an electronically controlled version of it, offering more precise and direct control on the road.
The new AMG models are currently launched in selected European markets. Pricing in Germany for the C43 AMG 4Matic Cabriolet starts at 67,919 euros, with the C63 and C63 S models asking for 83,419 and 91,689 euros respectively.
