MG is launching the new GS crossover in the UK with a turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet and the option of the company’s first seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The SAIC Motor-owned MG will offer the GS in three trim versions: Explore, Excite and Exclusive with pricing starting at £14,995 all the way up to £19,495 for the top-spec manual version and £20,995 with a DCT.
Entry-level models will offer features like cruise control, automatic headlamps and air conditioning while every GS will benefit from a full five year factory warranty as standard.
Powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 163hp and 184lb ft (250Nm) of torque, the six-speed manual version of the MG GS is capable of a 0-60mph in 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 118mph.
The company claims a combined fuel economy of 46.3mpg UK (6.1lt/100km) and CO2 emissions starting from 139g/km, making it fairly competitive against the established rivals.
Designed and engineered in UK’s Longbridge, MG’s first SUV is expected to aid the company in boosting its sales. The company is also planning to offer a diesel variant sometime in the near future and a second, more powerful petrol engine.
“This car offers so much for comparatively little, making it the SUV to choose,” said Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing for MG. “The specification on these cars is phenomenal and when you add in the five year warranty it’s a no-brainer.”
The new MG GS will be on sale across the UK, starting from June 16.
