It appears that the mighty Nissan R35 GT-R has met its match on the drag strip after all those years.
Evo magazine took a 2016 Nissan GT-R Track Edition and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS on Alconbury’s Cambridgeshire runway to find out which one is the fastest.
The theory tells us that the Nissan GT-R with its AWD and 542hp twin-turbo V6 engine should come out of this one as the easy winner, with the company claiming an astonishing 0-62mph (100km/h) in 2.7 seconds.
The Porsche, on the other hand, offers just 493hp out of its naturally aspirated flat-six engine which are then sent to rear axle only. But if history has taught anything is that you simply can’t underestimate the straight-line performance of the German track weapon.
The rear-mounted engine gives the GT3 RS impressive grip from the get-go while the PDK transmission is arguably one of the fastest in the market. And then there’s the weight difference: the Japanese icon is almost 300kg (660 poounds) heavier than the lightweight GT3 RS which kind of puts the final nail in the GT-R’s coffin.
