Porsche is serious about its “digital mobility”; so much so, it inaugurated a Digitization Competence Center.
The objective of the new enterprise is to further develop Porsche into the leading provider of digital mobility solutions. The subsidiary will be the company’s base of operations for expanding in the areas of connectivity, smart mobility and, although it has previously expressed a lack of interest in this field, autonomous vehicles.
CEO Oliver Blume says this is “a logical step in order for Porsche to successfully position itself for the digital future”, adding that the digitalization has three dimensions: product, customer and companies.
The division will cooperate closely with other departments in testing and implementing new value creation models and innovative product offerings, but will also look for suitable long-term partnerships in order to create a “digital ecosystem”. Moreover, the Digitization Competence Center will identify and evaluate trends and relevant technologies which could be implemented on future vehicles.
“Digitization is leading to the renaissance of the automobile and is making it the central element of our digital lifestyle. We will create digital customer experiences typical of Porsche which are fascinating and intelligent – both inside and outside the vehicle,” said the subsidiary’s new managing director Thilo Koslowski.
The foundation of the Porsche Digital GmbH is part of a major innovation offensive at Porsche, as the car maker is readying the field for its first-ever all-electric vehicle – which will be based on the Mission E concept car.
