After 14 years, Toyota is readying a successor to the Supra and all things point to it being well into its development stage.

That much is evident by Toyota Motor Company registering the name with the Icelandic office of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The trademark was filed on June 3, 2016, more than two years after Toyota made a similar move with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), SupraMKV writes.

The revived sports car is being co-developed with BMW, which will use the same platform for the Z4 replacement, though the design and engines will be unique to each model.

BMW‘s roadster will adopt the brand’s new styling scheme, while the Japanese coupe will most likely be influenced by the FT-1 Concept shown in 2014.

Magna Steyr will be in charge of building the two sports cars at its Graz factory in Austria, starting in 2018, at a rate of 60,000 units per year.
