Did Mercedes-AMG forget to drop you an invitation to today’s unveiling of their new 585PS GT R in Brooklands, UK? Well, you’re in luck as you can follow the presentation through a live stream right after the jump.
Thanks to a handful of leaked images that surfaced earlier today, we already know what the new top dog in Mercedes-AMG’s high-performance range will look like, with the Germans dialing up the appearance of the track-inspired GT R with a number of functional aerodynamic upgrades like the redesigned front bumper sporting modified ducts and a fixed rear wing.
It also gets some styling upgrades to separate it from the lesser AMG GT and GT S models, highlighted by a Panamericana grille, originally seen on the GT3 racer last year, and an exclusive color “AMG green hell magno”, which Merc says is an optical reference to the “Green Hell” that points to a direct lineage to the famed Nürburgring racetrack.
The AMG GT R will be lighter than the standard GTs utilizing carbon fiber parts on the body including the bonnet, fenders and boot lid, while also eliminating certain comfort features such as the electric operated seats.
Powering the German track beast is a re-worked version of AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 585PS (577hp) for a zero to 100 km/h (62mph) run in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 318 km/h (198mph). And oh, AMG tells us that it returns a combined fuel consumption of 11.4 l /100 km with CO2 emissions of 259 g/km for anyone who cares…
