As the first offering from the Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG partnership, the all-new DB11 is very important for the British manufacturer. Given this, Aston chief exec Andy Palmer has taken things into his own hands to ensure it’s up to scratch.

BBC Autos reporter Matthew Phenix revealed on Twitter that the former Nissan executive will personally inspect the first 1,000 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engines created for the DB11, fitting each with a special inspection badge bearing his signature. The news was later confirmed by Palmer on his personal Twitter page.

As the automaker’s new range-topping series production car, the company’s future success relies heavily on the DB11 proving a hit among the press and customers. It is the first car in the next-generation wave of Aston Martin cars and will be followed up next year by an all-new generation Vantage.

The new V12 built in collaboration with AMG offers 600 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm of torque), resulting in a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 3.9 seconds before topping out at a nice, round 200 mph (320 km/h).
