The Volkswagen Group is apparently pushing for Audi to drop the slow-selling A3 Cabriolet from its line-up.

In 2015, only 19,400 examples of the Audi A3 Cabriolet were sold, which makes it the least popular A3 variant by far. Its cancellation would allow the automaker to save substantial amounts of funds that could be invested into the development of more advanced and fuel-efficient models.

If the Left Lane News report is accurate, the open-top may not be the only victim of VW’s ongoing restructuring plan. It is also reported that the three-door derivatives of the A1 and A3 hatchbacks could also be killed off due to dwindling demand for such vehicles in Europe.

This begs the (logical) question whether VW itself is considering to stop production of the three-door Polo and Golf, following the likes of Ford and Peugeot that offer their C-segment contenders solely in five-door configuration.
