With all these “memorable saves” that we’ve seen lately, it was only a matter of time until somebody botched one up.
To be fair, whoever was behind the wheel of this previous-generation Audi R8 didn’t exactly mismanage the save itself, but more so the secondary course correction that he needed to do after escaping the grass.
So what are we looking at then? It appears to be a classic case of understeering onto the grass, followed by a genuinely excellent save (using the throttle to gain momentum) and unfortunately a crash (hopefully a light one) at the end.
While we don’t get to see the moment when the R8 impacts the barrier, we can clearly hear it. We reckon the driver should have started to wind down the self-induced power-slide before the car rejoined the track. It might have just allowed him sufficient time and space to lift off and straighten the car out.
Hopefully the R8 didn’t suffer too much damage and the driver managed to walk away unharmed from the impact.
