Visit the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy and you’ll find a wealth of high-performance vehicle manufacturers: companies like Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Pagani… but also Dallara. The racing constructor has made a name for itself on the race track, but now it’s set to hit the road with a street-legal sports car of its own.
Reports of a Dallara road car have been circulating for some time now, but according to Autocar, the vehicle is set to debut before the year is out.
Now if you’re thinking that Dallara has already produced road cars, you’re both right and wrong. The company, known primarily for building single-seat, open-wheel racing chassis, has collaborated with numerous automakers on their most hardcore road cars. But this one will be entirely its own.
Autocar reports that the vehicle will be similar in orientation to the X-Bow it helped develop for KTM, only even more extreme. Power is projected to come from Ford’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four, producing as much as 400 horsepower – even more than it makes in the Mustang and Focus RS. And with a curb weight targeted around 800 kilograms (1764 lbs), it ought to offer blistering performance.
Like the X-Bow, the Dallara would have no doors and little in the way of creature comforts, and would be priced higher than the KTM as well. It will likely be the last project for company founder Gian Paolo Dallara, now 80 years old, who has was a key figure in the development of the Lamborghini Miura as well as countless racing chassis for F1, Indy, GP2, Formula 3, and numerous other racing series.
