A highly desirable Ferrari 599 SA Aperta will be sold by Mecum Auctions in Monterey next month and could go for as much as $1.5 million.
While the SA Aperta lacks the fabled ‘GTO’ nameplate, it is indeed based around the ferocious Ferrari 599 GTO rather than the ‘regular’ 599 GTB. This means that it shares numerous parts with the track-only 599XX and is powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.0-liter V12 engine that sings to 8,500 rpm and delivers 661 hp and 488 lb-ft of torque.
Mated to this engine is an exceptionally-advanced transmission almost identical to the 599XX’s, mimicking that car’s 60-millisecond upshifts and 120-millisecond downshifts. Also, if the driver holds down the left paddle, the car will automatically make numerous downshifts in preparation for a corner.
Unlike the 599 GTO of which 599 units were created, only 80 examples of the SA Aperta rolled off the production line, making it one of the most limited Ferrari models in recent memory.
This particular one is an exceptional example having just one owner and a mere 870 miles on the odo. With its red, white and black finish, it should prove a solid investment for the winning bidder.
