Alpine’s upcoming new sports car is pinned to spawn a number of special editions and different body styles after its release.
Autocar reports that bosses of the Renault-owned company have been so encouraged by sales interest in the model that they’re actively investigating launching a family of cars based around the yet-unnamed model.
According to Alpine boss Michael van der Sande, “We have to prove the demand is there for such a car and then start seeing which of our plans make most sense. A faster version looks like it would have potential, and I could imagine a beautiful convertible could be a possibility, but nothing is decided.”
The car was originally being developed alongside Caterham who have since departed the project. Nevertheless, Alpine’s side of the project has soldiered on and the model is expected to arrive sometime in 2017.
It is widely believed that the car will be powered by a stroked version of the Renault Clio RS’s 1.6-liter four-cylinder but now displacing 1.8-liters. Power is expected to sit at the 250 hp mark when the car launches but a possible hardcore version could comfortably push that figure closer to 300 hp.
