Despite losing his championship lead to teammate Lewis Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg isn’t dissuaded and still believes he has a shot at the title.
Earlier in the season, a string of victories for Rosberg and poor results for Hamilton allowed the German to build up a seemingly-insurmountable 48 point lead. Due to a turn around in form in recent races, Hamilton now leads by six points.
Immediately after Sunday’s race, Rosberg said “It doesn’t change much for me, because it’s so close, and I’m out there every race with the opportunity to win. The last races have been so close, and it just takes a small thing to switch it the other way. So I’m super motivated, and I want to turn it round for the next race in Hockenheim.
As I’ve said all the time I’m not counting points, and I also fully expected him to come back, and I didn’t expect to be 48 points ahead all the time. It ebbs and flows, and it’s always going to be a tough battle against Lewis – he’s the world champion,” Rosberg said.
Of the 11 races completed this season, Rosberg and Hamilton have both claimed five victories but with one extra podium finish, Hamilton has just edged ahead.
