Opel/Vauxhall has used every trick in the book to hide two prototypes of the upcoming Insignia and aside from the common vinyl wraps, the cars feature a pattern similar to Renault’s diamond logo.

This isn’t, however, enough to disguise them, as a front end similar to the latest Astra, along with the generous proportions of the redesigned body, gave it away.

Speaking of size, the next-gen Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, which will go on sale in North America badged as a Buick Regal, will be underpinned by the E2XX platform used on the Chevrolet Malibu. This will help it increase its wheelbase length by approximately 10 cm (3.9 in), while dropping up to 130 kg (287 lbs) from its total weight.

In the US, the Regal should use an assortment of four-cylinder turbocharged engines, which could include the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter units, along with a hybrid version and a high-performance V6 that will add the GS badge. The latter will also hit the European car market, under the Insignia OPC moniker, and will be joined by a selection of petrol and diesel mills such as the 1.6-liter turbo, 1.6-liter CDTI and 2.0-liter CDTI. A hybrid is also believed to join the lineup on the Old Continent.

Opel/Vauxhall are expected to lift the veils off the all-new Insignia this fall, during the 2016 Paris Motor Show, but deliveries should commence next year, while on the other side of the Atlantic, the next Buick Regal is expected to go on sale in mid-2017, as a 2018 MY.
