This is no joke people; a fat crossover wants to pick a fight with one of the nicest sports cars in the market today.

But this is no ordinary crossover we’re talking about; it is Porsche’s range-topping Macan Turbo.

Powered by a twin-turbo 3.6-litre V6 paired with a seven-speed double-clutch transmission, the Macan Turbo makes 394hp (400PS) and 405lb ft (550Nm) of torque. On the other hand we have the BMW M2 which uses a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six unit with 365hp (370PS) and 343lb ft (465Nm) of torque.

If it were any other SUV, we would all laugh at its expense, deeming this comparison as plain stupid. But since this is Porsche we’re talking about, things can get rather interesting despite the big difference in weight between the two cars.

The Macan Turbo has already proven that it is a genuine freak of engineering brilliance, offering the speed and the feedback of a sports car, wrapped in a practical bodystyle. Is it faster though than the BMW M2 on the track?

That’s exactly what Auto Express set out to discover, as you can see in the video that follows.
