The Mercedes AMG E63 may have a little racing heritage to its name, but it’s far from the idea of a racing car. Well, except this one.
Still , even hard-boiled tuned variants of Merc’s E63 model are destined to flex their outrageously potent grunt only on long stretches of road (such as the autobahn) or between the lights, although Posaidon doesn’t necessarily agree.
That’s because the German aftermarket specialist’s take on the matter differs greatly from the “standard” tuning recipe, and with a name like RS850+ it isn’t that hard to imagine why.
Yup, that means it develops in excess of 850 PS (838hp). 1,020 PS (1006hp), to be exact, and 1,400 Nm (1,032 lb-ft) of torque. Based on the Mercedes AMG E63 4Matic, Posaidon says the RS850+ takes the crown as the most powerful street-legal Mercedes of all time.
The major boost in power came after the tuner upgraded and re-engineered all the major engine components, including the turbochargers and intercoolers. Helping the monster under the bonnet breathe, a Ram intake air was augmented with a bespoke carbon-fiber encased intake system, incorporating a large free-flow conical air filter.
To cope with the onslaught of the 1,400 Nm (1,032 lb-ft) of torque, Posaidon uprated the gearbox and fitted specially calibrated limited slip differentials to the front and rear axles. And, as if the power figure wasn’t already putting the vehicle in another league, Posaidon went great lengths to lighten up the car, stripping its interior down to the metal.
The result? A theoretical top speed of 368km/h – 229 mph (limited to 350km/h – 217 mph), and a 2.8 seconds 0 to 100 km/h acceleration.
