Porsche’s newest manufacturing facility will be the place where 200 V8 engines will be born on a daily basis.
The new engine factory resides at the brand’s main site in Zuffenhausen, representing a nearly 80 million euros investment and having the latest, state-of-the-art production methods.
“We are further extending our competence in this area with the new engines”, said Oliver Blume, Chairman of Porsche’s Executive Board. “This is how we will assure our customers the driving pleasure of tomorrow and safeguard the future jobs of our employees.”
Porsche will be responsible for the production of the new-generation V8 engines for all Group-VW models from this point forward. Engines like the new 542hp twin-turbo 4.0-litre petrol or the 416hp 4.0-litre diesel unit of the new Panamera will be built next to the 429hp 4.0-litre diesel of the Audi SQ7, with more models scheduled to use them in the near future.
“We are creating state-of-the-art working conditions for our employees”, said Uwe Hück, Chairman of the General Works Council and Deputy Chairman of Porsche’s Supervisory Board. “That is because our intergalactic Porsche people are a key factor in our success. The new engine manufacturing facility also shows our commitment to Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart and Baden-Württemberg, to the future of sports car manufacturing and above all to our unique workforce.”
A previous report suggested that this will be the final V8 engine family we are going to see from Group VW as the company intends to focus on electric and hybrid vehicles on the long term.
