Aston Martin continues to pay tribute to Britain’s aviation industry with the V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80.
This exclusive variant of the hand-built sports car will be offered by the same dealer (Aston Martin Cambridge) that came up with the V8 Vantage S “Blades Edition”.
Aston Martin Cambridge commissioned only 80 such models form Aston Martin’s Q personalization service, in order to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the most iconic British warplane of all times: The Supermarine Spitfire.
Just like the single-seat fighter that was used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries before, during and after the Second World War, the Aston Martin is powered by a V12 engine. With 565 hp and 457 lb-ft (620 N-m) of torque at its disposal, the vehicle doesn’t come with a power oomph over the standard variant, but it does sport numerous bespoke goodies.
Apart from the satin carbon fiber appendages and Q’s attention to detail, Duxford’s Aircraft Restoration Company has hand-built a wide array of components, reminiscent of the Spitfire, including the tailpipe tips (finished in a rainbow ‘bloom’ effect) and an aluminum bar in the cabin that’s inspired by the plane’s rear strut brace.
All automobiles will be finished in Duxford’s special green color, with yellow pinstripes along the sides to mimic the look of a Spitfire.
The cabin has received Q’s personal touch as well, sporting specially embroidered logos on the headrests, and a plethora of aviation-related design cues. According to Autocar, buyers can also add accessories to their purchase, including a special Spitfire 80 Irvin jacket and a flying helmet and goggles.
The price tag for a road-legal “Spitfire” is £39,505 ($52,559) more than the regular Vantage V12 S’, totaling £180,000 ($239,634). Probably a bit steep, but for every car sold, Aston Martin Cambridge will make a donation to the Royal Air Force welfare charity.
