Our spies have just sent us a second set of spy photos showing another Corvette ZR1 test mule which is set to become the ultimate iteration of the C7 generation.
While the first car we spied had a pair of short pedestals mounted on the rear deck lid, this test car features a taller set that’s close to a GT3 race car’s height.
Look closely through the windows and you’ll notice a very long item wrapped in bubble wrap positioned inside, running through the passenger’s side and into the rear hatch.
This would be the rear wing or even a set of more aggressive rocker panels. Reports suggest that the company wants to add an active rear wing to the upcoming daddy of Corvettes in order to give it motorsport levels of aerodynamic efficiency.
With GM shipping these test mules inside an enclosed auto hauler, these pieces have been removed to allow for a proper clearance when fitted inside the truck. The front end is still heavily camouflaged where most of the design changes are expected, including bigger air intakes and a more prominent bulge on the hood.
As far as the engine goes, there are strong rumors that Chevrolet is going to use a new twin-turbo V8 engine codenamed ‘LT5’. The twin-turbo setup will certainly demand the use of twin intercoolers which would explain the larger intakes on the front fascia.
The new engine is expected to produce close to 700hp, positioning it easily above the current ZO6, which will allow the new Corvette ZR1 to hunt down some really expensive and much more exotic machinery to the ground, when it will eventually hit the market as a 2018 model.
