If you’re interested in purchasing a non-Audi or Mercedes high-performance station wagon straight out of Germany, Alpina will soon have you covered with their new B5 Touring.
It’s about as close as you’ll get to having a genuine M5 Touring, only with minor visual changes and a familiar 4.4-liter twin turbo V8 engine, possibly delivering somewhere around 600 PS in the next-gen model. There have also been rumors suggesting 580 PS for the B5 and around 400 PS for the tri-turbo diesel-powered D5 version.
Alpina will likely wait for BMW to officially unveil the next-generation M5 first, before showing off their B5 models, which likely points to a late 2017 or early 2018 launch date.
Now back to the styling, it’s a given that the new B5 Touring will pack a traditional Alpina body-kit consisting of a new front spoiler, rear bumper, quad exhaust pipes and a few new badges, plus a sporty suspension, high performance brakes and typical multi-spoke Alpina wheels.
The car that our spy photographers caught at the ‘Ring had this exact type of wheels at the rear, however at the front it’s obvious they were testing a different sort of design with 5 dual-spokes.
Once BMW unveils their regular 5-Series sedan at the end of this year, we’ll probably be able to piece together what it would the station wagon model will be like with a sportier kit and therefore have a good understanding of Alpina’s B5 Touring as well.
