Not satisfied with simply updating and replacing its existing cars, Aston Martin will introduce a multitide of all-new models in the coming years, including a mid-engined sports car to rival the Ferrari 488 GTB.
As part of Aston’s “Second Century Plan”, seven new models will be unveiled by the firm in the coming seven years. Among them will be the DBX, two high-end sedans adorned with the Lagonda badge and the AM-RB 001 hypercar. The 488-rival will follow after the AM-RB 001 early next decade.
While speaking with Motor Trend, company boss Andy Palmer confirmed that the marque’s revolutionary hypercar designed by Adrian Newey will be the “start of a bloodline” spawning a cheaper and more accessible supercar.
“I’d be interested [when AM-RB 001 is] done in developing beyond that into something that’s slightly more mainstream that could be driven by more people,” Palmer confirmed.
Such a model is unlikely to launch within the next four years as deliveries of the AM-RB 001 won’t commence until 2018. When the model does launch, it will have to rival the hardcore variant of the 488 as well the successor to the McLaren 650S and a potential new mid-engined supercar from Porsche.
