According to a German report, Audi will launch an Allroad variant of the potent RS6 Avant next year.

Autobild claims that the model would feature the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as the standard model and therefore deliver an equal 552 hp and 700 Nm. Where it would differ would be the increase in ride height already enjoyed by lesser A6 Allroad derivatives, a set of new wheel arches and some cladding across the underbody.

Interestingly, it is suggested that the model could be sold exclusively in China because of the country’s huge appetite for high-performance off-roaders. If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be the first time Audi has created a model exclusively for China having previously done just that with the long-wheelbased A4.

If enough demand for such a model exists in China, then it would make clear financial sense for the German firm to create such a car. It could be developed on the cheap by using parts from the RS6 and A6 Allroad ranges and be priced above the standard RS6 Avant.

If these reports come to fruition, a debut at a major Chinese event such as the the Shanghai Auto Show in late April 2017 is possible.
