Track days are all about pushing a car to its limits in a safe and controlled environment but in November, the UK will host something a little bit different, a track day exclusively for autonomous vehicles.
Hosted by the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, the track day will allow developers and hobbyists the chance to test out their cars away from the dangers of public roads or private land.
Similar track days will also be hosted in France and Austria and are being backed by the Innovate UK organization playing a pivotal role in promoting and developing self-driving vehicles.
Given how difficult it is to receive regulatory approval to test autonomous vehicles on the road, these track days will prove especially useful for small companies without the funding of leading automakers like Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Volvo.
According to Innovate co-founder Alex Lawrence-Berkeley “Driverless vehicle technology is a young discipline which pools expertise from different areas of mechanical, electrical and software engineering skills. We’re keen to close the skills gaps between education and what industry is telling us is missing in the talent pool.”
