Ford’s 2016 Shelby Mustang GT350, particularly in R guise, is one of the meanest and most capable American track cars on sale. In fact, the firm claims it’s faster than a Porsche 911 GT3 around a road circuit.

But does the GT350’s on-track prowess automatically result in blistering straight-line performance?

To find out, BadBowtie Productions pitted a GT350 against a brand new Chevrolet Camaro SS, a car which on paper, should be dealt with easily by the Mustang.

After all, the car in the blue corner uses a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V8 engine delivering 526 hp and revving to an absurd 8,250 rpm. By comparison, the latest Camaro SS pumps out ‘just’ 455 hp from its 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine.

Despite this, the results are much closer than you’d expect, going to prove just how capable the sixth-gen Camaro is in standard V8 guise.

Who’s ready for a 2017 GT500 vs ZL1 race?
