Ferrari’s finest specimen has just lost a drag race from a virtually unknown electric car made from a tiny company in Croatia.

Rimac wants to rock the establishment with their electric Concept One hypercar and what better way to get noticed by racing your first car against the all-mighty LaFerrari.

But this isn’t a typical one-hit wonder as Rimac has infused their first product with really clever engineering that takes electric cars to another level: no less than four electric motors, each with their own gearbox provide no less than 1180lb ft (1600Nm) of torque instantly to make the Concept One one of the fastest-accelerating automobiles of the planet.

Total power is rated at 1088hp which makes the Rimac Concept One capable of reaching 62mph from a standstill (0-100km/h) in less than 3 seconds, with the top speed rated at 220mph (354km/h).

Mate Rimac says that their car actually completed the 0-62mph procedure in 2.69 seconds that day, with the quarter mile done in 9.92 seconds. The specific Concept One is also a US customer car and not some development workhorse.

“The Concept One has no special mode for maximum acceleration”, said Rimac in a press release. “It just needs to be in Race Mode and first gear. The driver just needs to floor it and the Traction Control and Torque Vectoring will do their best to translate as many free electrons as possible into pure acceleration.

“The Race Mode is customizable like any other mode through the Concept One’s infotainment system and can also be used for every day driving. The only relevant parameter for acceleration is that in this mode, maximum torque on all four motors is enabled.”

Is the Rimac Concept One the next big thing? Well, we’ll leave that up to you to decide.
