Just after building his dream Nissan 240Z, Fast and the Furious actor Sung Kang started work on his latest project, this time involving a 1972 Ford Maverick.

The Maverick holds a special place in the heart of Kang as in Fast Five, his character of Han actually drove a Maverick from 1971. To help bring his latest creation to life, the star has enlisted the help of three students and aspiring automotive technicians from California with the aim of unveiling the final build at November’s SEMA show in Las Vegas.

The build is being followed online by YouTube channel Garage Monkey and a sketch and some preliminaries details about the project have been announced.

The project will completely scrap the original powertrain and in its place will sit the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder from the current Mustang, thanks to a half-cut provided by Ford itself. As with Kang’s 240Z, the body will be revitialized and giving an added boost of adrenaline with flared arches, custom bumpers and a massive front-mounted intercooler.
