After a comprehensive product planning and a two-year project to expand the plant in Leipzig, Germany, a completely new model for Porsche went into production back in 2009 – the Panamera.

Combining the attributes of a luxury saloon with a premium sports car, it followed in the footsteps of the Cayenne and limited edition Carrera GT as the brand’s third vehicle to be manufactured at this facility and now, seven years later, the final one of the first generation model has just rolled off the assembly line.

With the launch of the Panamera in 2009, we tapped into a completely new segment. The sports saloon has gone on to both define and inspire us“, said Dirk Kolar, Director Manufacturing at the Porsche plant in Leipzig, said.

While the outdated model is officially over and out, the second generation of the Gran Turismo is being manufactured entirely at the same facility, with its evolutionary design, more generous proportions, completely new interior influenced by the latest 911 and fresh equipment.

Underneath its new sheet metal, the 2017 Porsche Panamera utilizes the MSB architecture and takes power, in the launch variants at least, from new 2.9-liter V6 and 4.0-liter V8 gasoline units and from a 4.0-liter V8 diesel.
