General Motors has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a new safety recall over certain 2011 Buick Regal sedans.
Models equipped with 8-way power adjustable front seats that left the assembly line between November 3, 2009, and March 25, 2011, will have to be taken back to the dealers for an inspection, as their wiring harness could chafe against the seat frame.
If this happens, then the power seat adjustment will become inoperative and lights will flicker on the instrument panel, while in more extreme cases, the defect could cause an electrical short circuit, increasing the risk of fire.
The manufacturer has yet to provide an exact notification schedule for owners of the 42,984 potentially affected vehicles, but once an appointment will be scheduled with a local dealer, technicians will secure and repair any chafed wires as necessary, free of charge. Moreover, GM will reimburse owners who have already repaired their seat wiring harness, according to the plan submitted on May 20, 2015.
It’s not known at this point whether a recall will be issued in markets outside North America, where the Buick Regal is sold as an Opel/Vauxhall/Holden Insignia.
