Just like trying to figure out how good an F430 Challenge is on the road, this is by no means a real test. Of course the Ferrari’s got huge limitations; it’s a racer and not even street legal!
Likewise, the $100k F-Type V8 S and the $30k-ish Chevy Impala are like comparing apples and oranges an F-22 Raptor and a Boeing 737.
Would anyone in his right mind compare the two even as rentals? Well, Doug DeMouro for starters, and… nope, no one else, just DeMouro.
Here’s his angle. Life is too short to drive boring cars and while buying, say, a Jaguar calls for deep pockets, you can always rent one. That’s exactly what he did. Instead of doing the sensible thing and book a ride from a normal car rental agency, he went with Turo, a company where privateers offer their own cars up for rent. It turns out that, unless you have to transport more than one passenger and/or serious luggage, the F-Type is not that absurd of a choice if you can fork out the green. How much? The Impala has a daily rate of $89, so the Jag should be around…
We were taken aback by the price difference. Not being compelled to buy and maintain huge fleets that brings the costs down.
