Mercedes-Benz Delays The U.S. Launch Of Diesel C-Class By 12 Months

The United States will have to wait 12 months longer than expected before Mercedes-Benz offers a diesel C-Class locally.

Mercedes initially planned on launch the C300d during the first quarter of this year. However in an email to Automotive News, a spokesman for the company said that the launch has been delayed.

“The latest plan is sometime in 2017 (mid-2017 is a reasonable estimate, not firm), but this is certainly subject to change,” he said.

While no specific reason has been given for the delay, it could be due to the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal which has led to the implementation of stricter testing of diesel vehicles in the U.S. These changes have already affected the likes of BMW and Porsche.

Mercedes-Benz is unlikely to be too concerned with the delay as diesel models account for just 1.2 per cent of its sales in the U.S.
